In May 2021 the consent process for\u00a0QuickSmart\u00a0<\/em>Research participation was simplified so that it was no longer necessary for schools to collect program consent and assent forms for QuickSmart<\/em> or QuickSmart <\/em>Comparison students. These permissions could now be included in general communication from the school; consent is now presumed, and students need to \u201copt out\u201d rather than \u201copt in\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following requests from schools and further discussions with the University\u2019s Ethics Department, the consent information sheets have now been updated in the QuickSmart Portal. There are two documents available which cover QuickSmart<\/em> Numeracy, Literacy, Catch-Up Numeracy and the Diagnostic Assessment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Information sheet for evaluation participants:<\/strong> this is the same document schools have used since 2016.<\/li>
  2. Information to Parents\/Care-givers Regarding QuickSmart<\/em> in Schools Research Project:<\/strong> this document is new and can be used as by schools as an information sheet to send out with other general school information.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    To access and download these documents, please log into the QuickSmart <\/em>Portal and click on \u201cQuickSmart<\/em> Numeracy\/Literacy\u201d underneath \u201cResearch Consent Forms\u201d on the left-hand side menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For SA schools taking part in the QuickSmart <\/em>Online trial, there is a separate link for this in the \u201cResearch Consent Forms\u201d section, but the new form there is the same as the one mentioned above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Please note that the \u201cProviding Research Consent for QuickSmart<\/em>\u201d sections of the Numeracy and Literacy Resources pages in the Portal have also been updated with new information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
