Description
In July 2006 the NSW Department of Education and Training (DET) funded SiMERR NSW to undertake reanalysis of the NSW data collected through the SiMERR National Survey. The analyses allowed comparisons to be made between the responses of NSW and non-NSW teachers (as a single aggregate group) with regard to staffing, teacher professional development needs, resourcing and student learning needs.

Findings
Findings from this report are confidential. However, in general the report provided the Department with detailed comparative data with which to identify the needs and situations of rural and regional NSW teachers, and to compare the level of need for various resources with that of teachers in corresponding locations outside the state. The comparisons will inform the Department’s prioritisation of professional development, material and staffing resources.
Outcomes
- Lyons, T. & Cooksey, R. (2006). The needs of primary and secondary teachers of science, ICT and mathematics in New South Wales schools. Confidential Report to the NSW Director General of Education.
